Wind Turbines & Solar Parks

Why the need for an association?

Salvem started in May 2021 because the situation in the Burgar valley looked like this:
There are plans for at least:

  • 205 wind turbines spread over 18 hectares
  • 5 solar parks covering a total of 362 hectares
  • High tension cables throughout the entire valley
  • The construction of large access roads

At the end of 2021 the Catalan Government redefined the regulations.

Since May 2022 project applications are coming in again.

This means the threat of an industrialised Burgar valley continues!

Current procedures

The goal of the Catalan government is to have completely transformed the energy supply by 2030. However the way this is being done is not democratic nor sustainable, neither economically nor environmentally.

Here are a few reasons why…..

  1. Procedures are not transparent and citizens including residents and landowners are not being consulted.
  2. Most of the macro projects are being planned in Southern Catalunya where land is cheap and population less dense. This will bring about a huge destruction of the natural and rural area.
  3. The energy produced would have to be transported by means of kilometres long high tension cables to the large urban areas and data centres, which means loss of energy.
  4. Local conventional and eco-agriculture will be destroyed: it is no longer workable / profitable and many land owners are tempted by the big corporations’ misleading offers to either buy or rent their land.
  5. Distances between houses and wind turbines are not being considered or respected which causes health problems.
  6. Currently there are not enough resources on earth to support our current living standards solely using wind / solar energy.
  7. Wind turbines are the source of many deaths of bats and (migrating) birds.

Why spoil nature when there are hectares of industrial roof tops perfect for solar panels?
