Renewables . YES . But not like this!
Salvem Lo Burgar agrees the need for renewable energy programs but not at the cost of the local environment.
The Burgar is a valley in between the villages of Rasquera, El Perelló, Tivissa and Ginestar in Southern Catalunya. It is part of the Terres de l’Ebre, one of UNESCO’s biospheres. It is a natural corridor between four Natura2000 zones of the EU.
Its landscape is a combination of olive and almond terraces as well as pine forests and shrubs. It houses huge numbers of wildlife, flora and fauna, including several protected species such as bats and eagles. There are beautiful old farms, characteristic stone walls, cave paintings and unique old towers more than a century old. Rural tourism is flourishing. In other words: an absolutely unique area.
The Burgar valley is being threatened by big industrial wind turbines- and solar parks, high tension cables and big access roads.
